Life (and Love) After Stroke: Mike's Story

DAY 5 – MIKEY IS BACK HOME!

April 16, 2025

He had a restless night with head pain. Not great sleep. Neurosurgery saw him last night for the final time and they feel his well-oriented presentation and clinical stability over these last couple days indicates that the swelling is not significant enough to warrant acute intervention, meaning no surgery. Great news!

I did speak with his nurse and asked about the other alternative they mentioned yesterday, medications to address the swelling, which in turn may help address his terrible head pain, and he said the doctor didn’t order any but he will address it with the stroke team because now that he’s stable, we need this head pain under control.

So I keep advocating for them to get on top of this pain and will continue to do so today.

Since he’s been stable several days now, hopefully, this can be a priority for them.

Mikey is back and will be there to see him this morning! The best medicine for him 💕

He’s had a big morning so far!  Worked hard in PT and moved both his left arm and left leg just the tiniest amount on his own!! Those beautiful tattooed muscles are waking up!!!

We could see the sheer determination and concentration on his face. And he could feel that effort too! Those muscles were working hard!

Also felt the pinches on his left foot on the toes and upper left leg on the neuro exam. First time for that! And then he felt the bp cuff squeezing his left arm!

God made this man and knows what he needs and when he needs it!

Arterial line has been removed and he is much more comfortable. He has graduated to the blood pressure cuff.

Our prayers are being heard and God is being so steadfast with His responses 🙏🙏❤️❤️

Thank you for your prayers! Mike and I are seeing the results firsthand!
