Life (and Love) After Stroke: Mike's Story

Day 8 – We’ve turned the corner!

April 19, 2025

To say Mike is doing well is an understatement. My love is kicking butt and taking names!

He was the best he’s been this morning. His sons and his brother got to witness it. He ate and ate and ate. He chatted and made jokes. He requested hash browns with eggs and ketchup and coffee. He enjoyed it!

He was alert and oriented for over 2 hours. Sitting up and able to give meaningful input into conversations. A few quirky confusing moments but again the brain fog is still there but we can see it slowly lifting.

He will be transferred today off this critical care area into a more private room. That’s going to be extremely helpful for him. And of course, it’s a great milestone!

Sunnyview is looking closer and closer and Mike is ready!! 💪🏻💪🏻

My task today is to keep him up as much as possible so we have a movie started that Mike requested and keeping the lights on. His days and nights are messed up since he slept all day yesterday so he was up last night but the rest was key so it’s a minor concern.

We thank God for this continued blessing of forward movement. The pain is minimal and we pray for that to continue 🙏

We are overjoyed. His kids and I feel calmer, and our hearts are so full right now. We can breathe easier. We are eternally grateful for all of the love, support and prayers. They are sustaining us.
